Default 1983 Mustang fusible links

I have a 1983 Mustang GT. Im kinda having the same problem. I was driving one day and I went into the store. When I came back out the car would not start. The gauges did move and i could here a click noise. I had someone to help me start it and it went down hill. The starter relay started smoking. I did replace it the starter relay and the battery. The car still will not start. Looking at the wiring diagram. It is a high percentage it is the fusible links. Where are those purchased and how do you replace them? I need some major help asap...

I had the same problem. I went inside to grab a bit to eat and came out to a dead car. I thought orginally it was just the batt. I jumped it and smoked the start solenoid. I replaced to starter solenoid, batt, and the positive and neg connections going to the battery. Sometimes the cables don't show visable problems but cut a slit in the wire. You could easy have corrison like I did.

Just a few ball-park style questions and suggestions, based on my experience with my '85.

With the battery all bolted in, do the headlights, interior lights, horn, wipers all work as they ought to?

With the key in the "on" position, are you getting power to the coil?

Any power to the starter solenoid?

Wires and cables going to the solenoid all sound and tight? If you jump the solenoid, does the engine turn over, starter spin, anything happen?

Are the wires clean and tight where attached to the solenoid and starter motor?

Body grounds all in place and tight?

Check and let us know, OK? There really isn't much that can hinder this year Mustang from turning over at least.

Luck,

T
