vacuum and cooling issue!!! please help!
88 5.0 mustang..... i believe is a H.O. engine, but im not sure.... now, im a noobie to doing this kind of engine work so the terms i am using may be incorrect, so please correct me where i am wrong.
i just installed a ford cobra intake manifold (?) upper and lower..... the intake differed from the stock one (it had a H.O. manifold when i got it).... the new manifold was lacking some hookup's for hoses and i THINK i got those hoses correctly installed.....
however, on the back (closest to passenger compartment) of the manifold, there is a long bolt that has a large tube, and two smaller tubes. when i removed it, i do not recall pulling off two SMALLER vacuum tubes, but when i got everything back together, i only had one vacuum tube to connect.
the vacuum tube that i couldnt find a hose for has suction (spelling) and when i cover the hole with my finger, the engine idle gets rough. i can take pictures if necessary.
the engine seems to run fine, but i am not getting the power (feeling) that i should.
as far as the cooling issue goes.... the front of the manifold, where the hose goes to the radiator...
i am blowing the gasket where the thermostat is. i thought it may have been a faulty thermostat but i replaced it, as well as the gasket, and i continue to experience higher than normal engine temperatures, as well as blowing the gasket.
it was suggested to me that the piece that connects to the manifold was cracked, but i removed it totally and inspected it, i could not find any cracks. i made sure the piece was free of any bits of old gasket as well.

RE: vacuum and cooling issue!!! please help!
are you sure you are putting the thermostat the correct way and not backwards??? You also remembered to use silicone on the gasket between the manifold and the thermostat housing, correct? Did it ever overheat before installing this intake setup?? If not, then you also could have the heater hoses backward... If you already had this problem with overheating, did you check if your heater core is clogged???

i did not use any silicon on the gasket, the heater core was removed from the vehicle and i have plugged the pipes to the heater core.....
when i plug the empty vacuum hose, it seems to run alot rougher than if i do not have it plugged...
a friend of mine says that the engine is running rich at idle and lean at WOT....

RE: vacuum and cooling issue!!! please help!
btw the thermostat is put in correctly... i tried two different thermostats, and they blow out the gasket... i put the original in and it still runs hot......
the original is 165 degreees... and the new ones are 195.....
i cant find an empty vacuum hose that would go in the slot... does any one have a vacuum hose diagram of the engine bay? i get the feeling that the empty vacuum hose is causing all of the problems...
