i hate to say it but daddy is wrong i just put a new clutch in the other month mine was doing the samething and it does it the most in 3rd at about 2300 rpm you hit the gas and it surges to 3500 and then the car moves but its takes a while to catch up with itself its your clutch

It's hard to explain, but if your clutch is burning, it has a smell all its own and sticks out like a sore thumb. I've been through this also, and it was the clutch.

i can see where your dad is coming from saying how the clutch will either work or it wont that happens with the 4 banger rice crap because they dont have the same kind of torque a mustang does or drive line it has to put the power through so when the clutch gets low the fly wheel will just spin on the clutch which is why you have no acceleration if that makes any sence haha

a bad clutch will still work at low power levels... you can make the car accelerate without banging on the gas, but slowly easing into it...

if you can get it to accelerate, then mash the gas and the RPM's fly up... your clutch is bad
