RE: Project Cheap Street build complete - Emissions next!
In CA they check to see what your timing is at as part of the test, I dont know if they do that in CT. So if you retard the timing way down and then the tech checks it at a later part of the test that may cause problems.

Dude your high if you think a speed density car will pass with aftermarket injectors in it. Probably wont pass with mass air either. Unless you change the injectors.

New plan is to hook up the smog pump, retard the timing, dump some dry gas in the tank and let the cats get screamin hot, then cross my fingers.

Exact same thing the engine guy said. BTW, the 19 lb stockers went in this past weekend. I may even run the car with the 19s - I had the fuel pressure @ 32-34 psi with the 24 lb injectors. If I up the fuel pressure, I probably won't have too much of a problem.

Smog pump will help, but it was the 24's that really killed you last time.
How do you tell the stock SD computer that there are 24lb injectors in place of the factory 19's???
Is it possible without a custom tune?
I have always wondered, but never cared enough to look into it...
What are your coolant temps???

with gt40 heads and a stock cam, you should be just fine with the 19's. Yes, return the fuel pressure to about 38-40psi (vac off).

RE: Project Cheap Street build complete - Emissions next!
Time for an update:
We got the car through emissions with the 19s. I swapped out the exhaust (MAC Prochamber) and went to the dyno. It was starving for fuel above 4000, so we did the Mass Air Conversion. I used the instruction provided on this site - it went real smooth. Here are the results from the most recent dyno pass:
HP: 286 rwhp
TQ: 313 trq
As for drag racing, the car has now been to the strip 3 times. It runs like a champ, though the driver needs a tuneup. With some very sloppy shifting:
ET: 12.447
MPH: 108.33
60': 1.631 - with 3.55s!!!
Wgt: 3078 lbs. with driver (~2880 w/o)
That was a Fun Ford Weekend at New England Dragway. I ran it in True Street, so I had to run ET Streets out back. They were hooking great. I will probably put 4.10s out back for next season. With the gears, some minor suspension mods and a better driver, very low 12s should be possible. Not sure if 11s is in the cards with the stock cam and GT40P heads, but I may see what can be done.
When it gets a little cooler, I will shoot for 30 mpg. I have seen as high as 25 mpg with all types of driving. I figure if we retard the timing and dial back the fuel pressure, a straight highway cruise might get it done.
Once again, thanks for all the input.Thishobby - building, modding, racing, showing cars- is one of the most enjoyable activities ever. Forums like this one allow us to get that "fix" 24/7!

Yeah real impressed, I have a 86 with 93 engine with gt-40x heads which are shaved and ported. Have all the other bolt ons I hope I can hit a 12.5
