RE: transmission 87-95 5.0
well, a stock aod car compared to a stock t5 car will 1 full second slower, even more on slicks
i speak from experience, not what my neighbors gay uncle told me
here are some numbers and then i'll explain why......
my '90AOD gt w/ 3.73's offroad, shorty headers, dynomax and gt40 intake went 14.40 on sportsman pro's
my '89 notch went 13.60 w/ 4.10's and sportsman pros
the same notch went 13.20's w/ 4.10's , et streets, long tubes, off road, FM catback, ac and smog delete, cai, and southsides
same notch went 12.50's that day squirting 75
my '88 notch went 14.20's 100% stock on street tires (125k miles)
my '90 AOD lx 'vert went 15.10 on street tires w/ 3.73
then went 13.60 the same day squirting 100 zex
the reason is the gearing, an aod has a 2.40 first gear, and the t5 has 3.35
if you mult rear gear by 1st gear it gives total gear, and you'll see that an aod car needs 4.10's to basically equal a t5 in 1st w/ stock 3.08's
plenty guys running t5's in 11 second cars, the key is not launching too high on slicks.....use a cheater, and make sure you break the tires loose b4 you break an axle or the tranny
i bought my '90 GT brand new, and the trans was toast in 5 years, w/ only 60k on it
