Default Will this work? 351 plus some goodies

okay for now, im just going to get a rebuilt 351 with camshaft, lifters, pushrods, oil pump, pistons, piston rings, connecting rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings, timing chain and timing gears, reconditioned cylinder heads with new valves and gaskets on ebay for like $1,600, throw on an intake and some front end goodies and get a new trans, clutch pressure plate, flywheel, driveshaft etc just so i can get my car running. when i get the money... here is what i want to do:

i want to get the block bored out to a 408 and put in forged internals, strap on some AFR 185 heads, a more agressive cam, a GT-40 lower intake manifold, and a KB top mount supercharger. will the block be able to hold up? they build the blocks to "manufacturer specs". also what boost level would i be able to run it at? the blowzilla can be run at 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18lbs.

thank ya guys.

I'd say save the money and dont buy the remanufactured block. You can buy a SCAT stroker kit for $1200 and poke it out to 393, just find a bare block somewhere, or even if someone is selling a long block, and have it cleaned and machined.

check out www.craigslist.com for some great deals. I found my RUNNING complete, carb to pan 351w with C4 trans for $350

i'll look around but i want a roller block for sure... so i dont know if im gonna find one of those by the time i need it so i may just go with the reman. one.

as for boost... what do you think i could/should run if i'm goin with forged crank pistons and rods on a 408 roller block?

1.5"-2.5" will work... its possible to get ti to fit, just unlikely

LesteR723, you dont NEED a roller block, and the older the block is, the better. 70's blocks have a higher nickel content and will handle more power. You can also EASILY retrofit a old block with roller lifters by using the linked lifters.

+1. they are jsut liek the older 302's can hold way more power than a newer 5.0. the roller conversion is worth it butu dont need it, those flat tappet motors will make awesome power when built right.

Lester,
I cleared the stock hood on my 90GT by doing the following...
Lightning lower intake.
Comp cams box upper intake
'captured' convertible style motor mounts.

I also had to trim about .700" off the lower surface of the upper intake manifold.

It is a nice feeling to get a 408w under the stock hood

The roller stuff will come down to what you want to do, and expect to pay.

I have some more details on the swap here...
