unknown noise

can you narrow it down a little more? Speedo cable wouldnt sound like it was comin from the vents on the passenger side, and and exhaust leak would *probably* get louder as you accelled. sounds like sticky lifters- seafoam is your friend, even if its not the problem, its always a good idea to burn the crap out of your engine.

i still have the smog pump, but the tube going back to the exhaust it cut off and just hanging back there, could that be whats making the noise becausei think my air pump still works.

ill probably seafoam it because ive been meaning to do that anyway. And i know its now the oil, because i change it religiously

thats exactly what i think it is....the pump is pushing out air and the pipe that runs to the LH head is pushing out air....i had the same problem...i thought i had an exaust leak....i crimped the tube in the back and the noise went away

how hard is it to get the part of the pump that pumps into the cylinder heads? how did you guys plug it up?

check the lifters, i had a similar sound comming from the engine and when i pulled the lower intake i had a lifter starting to wear. Had flat spots on the lifter

all i did for now was unscrew the bowl looking fitting where the rubber hose went, beat it witha hammer and put it in a vise....it is totally seale now.....of if you wanna do it right....unscrew it from the back of the head and put a bolt.....5/8 by 11 and no longer than 3/4 in long in there
