Default Steering Slop...

So the about 1cm of play that i have in my steering wheel is starting to really aggravate me. I have a strong feeling that it is coming from the steering shaft because I have heard that they can be prone to going bad over time...

Question is if I yank one out of say a v6 sn-95 or a Fox will they be a direct replacement...

Are there any other parts of the steering i should inspect to try and figure out where this slop in the steering is coming from?

Is your car lowered? And I would suspect wear in ball joints or even the rack. Power steering racks will go bad over time, seal's go bad etc. Excessive bushing wear will also produce "slop" in your front end. If your car is lowered sometimes a "bump steer" kit is needed to prevent "under-steer" due to trailing when camber is pushed to the max.

car is stock suspension for now, and the steering feels responsive, its just that theres about 1cm of play between turning left and right... a "dead zone?"
