Default 6G ALternator Install

Car: 1991 5.0 GT

I just installed my New 6G Alt Today. I have tried to read up on what littel tech articles there are on this and have found that some say not to use the origianl Black and orange striped wire that you would connect to the post on the back of the Alt(instead run a seperate 4GAuge to the positive side of the Battery. Now others say run both wires and others say to run the 4 gauge to the starter solenoid. Which is correct???

I have the female D Plug for the Alt and eliminated the White looped wire. So I have 2 wires off the harness plugged into the D Plug and then the black and orange wire(this wire goes to the starter solenoid)on the post (back of ALT) then rana seperate 4 Gauge to the Battery.

Thanks in Advance

get rid of the stock crapy wiring, and use the 4ga cable, get some kind of inline fuse for it too, I got a 160amp resettable fuse

and its a 3G alternator by the way not a 6g.

it is the 3rd generation style alt, hence the 3G name it takes on

ya, but there is no point of keeping the stock wires if you put in a 4 gauge wire anyways.

Thanks for the quick input

ok so I eliminate the black orange wires I believe those go to the starter solenoid, and I run a seperate 4 Gauge to the battrey or the solenoid?

If it is the solenoid which sideback to replace the stock wire

Battery...obviously the positive

When I bought the alt they said it was the 6G the newer alt. It fits right in with no grinding and is smaller than the 3G.

Here is a link to the ALT I bought

Thanks

there is a 6g silver, I also had the 2 orange and black connected but after reading some more I took them off, I also read that all 3g alternators need a 4 gauge ground as well

I would like to know that too. I just recently put a new alt. on my stang and I have the wires run like marx91 does. So what your saying is that instead of running my 4 guage wire from the alt to the relay , I should run it from the alt. straight to the battery and omit theorange& black wire? Where can I get one of those 160amp resetable fuses? And If I needed a ground wire where am I supposed to go with it? From the alt. to the battery or from the alt to pc of metal on the frame?
