In my '86 V6 I believe there is a C4 automatic transmission which I have heard only has 3 gears. I was wondering the work involved to switch out to an AOD transmission after I do a V8 swap. I was going to stick with the C4 for a while becuase it is in great shape. can I use the 6er bell housing or do I have to find one from a V8 car?

what are you using the car for, the AOD stands for Automatic OverDrive, you only have 3 usable "get up and go" gears anyway and the c4 is a stronger trans. the 4th gear is for gas mileage, if that's what you want that's cool but c4 is a better race trans. don't know about the swap though sorry

yeah, the car is going to be a street car, and maybe visit the track once every couple of months... thats why I was looking at the AOD.currently the car is a v-6 but I'm gonna search for some good 302 blocks to build up a cheap v-8 to throw between the shock towers during my summer break, time and money permitting.

Ive also heard of the AODE but I thought that was a truck tranny..
