Default grease/oil on bottom of motor

So me and my dad went and looked at this car i am planning to buy as soon as my truck is sold(89 gt). My dad crawls up under the car and says the sway bar and practically everything back has a coat of grease/oil black grimy stuff on it. The guy who owns itmoved it around a bit last night, there were no oil spots on the ground, the car wasnt low on oil and its a rebuilt motor with new seals and timing chain cover, any one have any idea whats going on?

Ummm id say its an oil leak somehwere. But if the motor was rebuilt then it might just be blow back from the old motor. But make sure he has a invoice stating the motor was rebuilt if not then no sale. Remember theres a reson he is selling it.

i have a similar coat of slime all over my sway bar and oil pan that develops even after i wipe it off, i do not have any major leaks though, just the usual transmission fluid leak.

this could just be my car, but as it appears, it is normal as long as its not too much

dont quote me on it though

+1....look on the heads and see if the valvecovers are leaking and look underneath and see if the oil pan is leaking

ive had my car for a year now, 15k miles and ive always had a film of oil down there.. every time i change the oil i wipe it all off

it doesnt leak enough to worry me so its normal for oil to be on the bottom of my car

well i have the same probably and i know what the problem is. the valve cover gaskets are bad and i need to change them, but i'm really lazy. that oil runs down to the bottom of the engine and tranny. the gaskets are like $10 at autozone.
