Default Roof rotted

hey all. I just got a 86 GT with a sunroof and on both sides of the sunroof the metal is rotted about an inch wide and 3 inches long. Any suggestions? This is the only bad spot on the car. I was told that i can remove the sunroof and weld a new panel. I was also told that i might be able to get a wider sunroof and just cut the bad out completely. Anyone ever dealt with this?I want to keep the car. Im just trying to make it look as nice as possible. Thanks to any help.

I was kind of going through the same thing w/ my 88 GT. It has a sunroof and there is nothing wrong with it but I just want it removed and have it welded up. From everyone whoI have talked to its going to be extremely hard to do it and make it look right.Ifound one guy so far who would do it for most likely 1K +

Well, you can call some body shops but its actually alot harder than it seems. I thought you would just be able to rip out the sunroof, weld a new piece on and be done with it. Obviously, its just not that simple lol Call around and talk to some people though before you try anything. You never know, You might just find someone who has done it before or something and doesnt charge that much.

I have some rust bubblings around my sunroof too. I would love to fix it somehow. I got a quote from a body shop for $500 to have that fixed, along withone other bubble on the car. I thought that was pretty cheap. Can't comment on what the work quality would be like though.

He was talking about removing a sun roof though and having it patched.
