AFrs 185 heads gained 75 horsepower on a 392 Ford Crate Motor. Trickflows gained 78 m horsepower with a e303 cam and a gt40 intake on a cobra .So the 165's and the trickflows should be about even on a stock car. I believe the tune will make the decision and your setup as to what cam and intake you went with
I just put my trickflow heads on last tuesday and I couldn't be more happy.

RE: AFR, Twisted Wedge or Edelbrock
A lot of people with the trickflow top end kit fall short of 300whp, and that kit was designed for all those parts to work together. A lot of people have made over 300whp with AFR 165s with a random off the shelf cam and intake...

RE: AFR, Twisted Wedge or Edelbrock
Everything has been pretty well covered already, but I'm going to say the same thing I do every time this debate pops up (weekly): Out of the box, I'd take AFR's. Of course. I went Trick Flow because sometime down the line I'm going to port them. And when I do, they're going to make a hell of a lot more power than AFR's will, ported or not. This is because the TF's have a lot more meat on them, and the potential to be opened up is a lot greater. Just something to think about.
