yeah i didn't consider that an option, i wanted those things outta there... i heard most people thread a 5/8 bolt in, but how in the world is that possible without taking the heads off? ...there's barely an inch of space to work with and i can't fit any tools in there.

Take the crossover pipe completely off and figure out a good way to pinch off or block the existing stuff. That is the easiest way I have found. It will work great untill you are ready to pull the heads for upgrade. Then you can get the non emission heads or correct plugs to do it.

you need to cut the bolt so its no longer than 3/4" then file 3 or 4 grooves into the tjhread as if it is a thread chaser. The problem that you are having is that there is carbon build up in the threads. If you file a few chaser grooves into the bolt, you can work it back and fourth and it will remove the deposits as it goes in. once you get it threaded into the head, pull it all the way back out, apply some red rtv silicone, and thread it back in!

yeah it's the carbon. the first side i did i didn't bother trying to clean it and it took forever, but the second side i cleaned w carb cleaner and a pick and the bolt went in fine. i didn't use any sealant and it doesn't leak but my bolts were about an inch long

that's pretty much what i did... i could only find 2" long 5/8 bolts so i cut them down to 3/4" ...i stuck a small screwdriver in there to remove as much crap as possible, but i still couldn't get it in... i'll try to remove more and filing the first couple grooves down. thanks.
