when installing a cam should you change the cam bearings or not...if so how do you remove them and re install them

I didn't change mine when I changed out my cam. Just be careful not to knick them or anything when removing and re-isntalling them. It's wise to get them changed out if you're doing a complete rebuild on your engine.

i would if there was alot of miles on it just to be safe and so you dont have to do it later if the old one go out that wouldnt be fun after you already had it pulled a part once

it depends on how they look. if they are scratched or scored in any way yes, but if they look fine then dont worry about it. I usually always do when building a motor just to be safe and 20 bucks for new bearings is cheap insurance. You will need a Cam Bearing installation tool.

cam bearings have absolutely nothing to do with a transmission being rebuilt.

If you've got the shortblock torn apart then definitely replace them, just as insurance against having to tear the block down at some point in the future. If not, probably don't worry about it

i read that the cam bearings very rarely ever wear out...is that true....i think i read in in my "how to hotrod your small block ford" book about 20 years ago.
