what is magnafluxing and hot tanking a motor do?

magnafluxing checks it for cracks, and hot tanking it just cleans it up they let it bath in caustic soda, which eats everything off the block except the metal

magnafulxing utilizes small metal particles which are poured over the head and block surfaces, and then you use this big "u" shaped electro magnet to excite the metal particles and look for crack outlines.

I don't think shops charge more than 80-100 for both. I've never had to pay to do mine thogh, so i only know what I hear.
