Its an automatic and when put it into 1st gear and given a little gas then let off i get a loud repetitive clunking its hard to describe, its not a clicking though ha if that makes sense. And my car got alot louder then it used to for no reason and its coming from somewhere back there. Im guessing its the gears or a bearing but I havent taken off the cover yet.

You should open er up and check it out. Sounds like the ring/pinion though. Just get a new ring/pinion and a complete install kit and you should be fine.

I would suspect the u-joints in the driveshaft before anything else, but the only way to find out is to look

makes no senseman! ive installed junk yard gears and they didnt make noise.... if anything is proper;y installed it wont make noise
ORIGINAL: jmk3

I have a new set of genuine ford 3.73 gears I will let go for $90.00 + shipping. These are not Ford Racing or Motives in a Ford racing box they are the real OEM deal which should not whine if properly installed. PM if interested. John

it's probably something simple that we all as mustang guys fail to see like what silver91gt said check theu joints. change the rear fluid. could be the transmission too, does it bang when you put it into reverse?

Nope no banging in reverse. I know its coming from the rear end though it just doesnt sound like the tranny. Its just coming from too far back there to be the trans. Im looking at it tommarow so we'll see.
