Paint jobs are 99.9% prep work, and that is were the time and skill really comes into play. Any dents, ding, scratches and such need to be fixed. Not only that but to be a real "quality" paint job the car needs to be block sanded several times. You get what you pay for is never more true than when you talk about body work. I charge $1000 for a full repaint with NO jambs (ie same color as before) and do very minimal body work for that price (by that I mean I fix the dents and dings, but I won't do rust repair for that price) I do however wet sand and buff.
yeah thats real cheap i might paint and buff for that maybe i know i wouldnt do the prep for that amount
Yes it is cheap but that's a starting point for me, every car is different, plus I do this on the side after my regular job so my customer needs to be able to leave me the car for at least a month or more. I can only work on them about 8-10 hours per week.

Like they said, you get what you pay for.... Maaco can do good work, but you'll have to pay for it like anyplace else. I've also heard Maaco's work turns out better if you do the prep yourself....
100% true there prep sucks but the paint actually isnt bad. I had my car done they did some body work and stuff to and i got their best job. The kid that painted my car was good, however they oversprayed EVERYTHING. like i mean interrior, wheels, engine, it was rediculous. The paint chips decently easy because i didnt prep it myself, if you prep it yourself it should be ok. My paints been on my car for over a year now it got some chips from the hood rattling around and it getting hit with stuff. Next time i get it painted its getting laquor anyway. If you have the money (I didnt) get it done somewhere else. BTW the car i had painted is in my sig, they even painted the stripes for me for an extra 300 bucks.
