Default What is a "Puller"??

Im currently breaking down my 351w engine, trying to get to the block so i can rebuild it. There is a rather large bolt that i cannot get off on the crankshaft damper. In a book i have on rebuilding motors it says i need a puller. The only problem is i have no idea what that is so if you can help me out id appreciate it. I know its a noob question but thanks for the info.

It's similar to this.

Once you remove the crank bolt, you will need something to get the pulley off with.

You need to hit that bolt that holds the balancer on with a impact gun or its pretty hard to get off. I've used a breaker bar jammed between to crankshaft pully bolts and a breaker bar to get it loose before. Then like pro said use the puller pictured above to pull it off.

I heard of someone using the starter to take it off by putting a big ratchet with a breaker bar under thepassenger framerail and turning it over for a second.
I use air tools though

and thats not the right puller, only use one of those if you are replacing the balancer cause it will wreck it.

use a puller like this
