Default a good lesson for current/future nitrous users

my buddy kelly is some what of a redneck. didnt believe in purge valves.........he does now tho. a few weeks ago he throws on a 175shot onto is 466. we get in and i ask how he plans to purge the line. he says into the motor at idle. not a good idea. does it once, np. does it twice, np. does it three times.....BOOOM, CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK!! motor dies. knowing that the motor would be coming out today last night we fired it up (with a cracked block) warmed it up, from a 10mph roll WOT on a 175shot. lasted about .5seconds before BOOM! and thats all she wrote. here is a few pics

this is what oil and coolant look like together. he drove the car around my neighborhood a few times doing burnouts and launching it trying to blow it but it kept running

gross

the worst cylinder. cracked wall and busted piston

another blown pison

this piston slit in half and spun in the cylinder

a close up of the cylinder that blew

oil and coolant dont mix

so the lesson is, if you run nitrous or plan to, be smart about it. bad things can happen. hopefully the mods wont move this even tho its not quite 5.0 related

i made him buy a purge valve so the next motor doesnt end up as a boat anchor as well. we'll assemble it in the morning.

I ran nitrous through my 70 440 Road Runner for 3years without a purge valve. Never hurt the engine.
Instead of idle I'd bring it up 2 or 3 thousand rpm and just tap the button a few times.

you would think so but not for this guy. motors are a dime a dozen for him. hes already planning on building a 570ish motor when the new one pops
