motor knocks so hard but doesn't use any oil *now with Video*
mods please don't move it this is the only section i really post in so i was hoping i could get some help.
to start off this is about my beater its a 96 grand prix with with the 3.1 or something in it. anyways the motor knocks so hard you can hear probably a good 15ft away but i have been checking the oil frequently and it doesn't you a drop of oil. any suggestions i know it needs a rebuild more than likely but anything to prolong the inevitable?

man 3.1 chevy motors are ****, they all knock, it's prolly realy bad piston to valve slap (haven't heard it first hand obviously) or something dumb i know my Ex's sisters grand am 3.1 made a knock sound since it had 50k on it and when she told me about it it was a tid bit over 100k for some reason they make noise but don't die....
when it dies don't drop another 3.1 in it... get a 3.8 L76 motor or the L67 with the L76 top end (heads and M90) i'm pretty sure it's a basic swap nothing to crazy IIRC it's just a drop in... there are like 5 guys around here that have 96 and older GP's with the 3.8 swap

yea get the 97+ GTP motor or the GT motor and swap the top ends the gt motor has more compression (because of it being N/A) so when u swap te tops it gets a good amount of HP... and yea they clear not by a ton but they do.... there are a lot of guys here that have the 96 and older body that me and my roomate have helped swapt them in...
check out these guys' cars, good friends of me and my roomate

my truck did this before i had the motor rebuilt, it didnt burn any oil, maintained correct pressure but there was a wicked knock....like a 40 year old log truck or something not to mention the metal on metal sound.

u would have to the the hole pcm so you just get the motor psm and wiring harness, so technicalu u would have to rewire it, but u wouldn't have to plan out any wiring or cut anything just swap the hole harness
