Default How much power?

I am going to build a new 347 and I got to thinking that I might use one of Ford Racing's short blocks as a base for it. Anyway my question is how much power will the forged 347 short block hold? I am looking to make around 650HP on the motor using nitrous. This is the short block I am looking at: 347 Stroker

Thanks for the help

any 5.0 stock block shouldnt be pushed past 500hp is your worried about hte reliability of it.... 650 would probably result in a cracked block... u should look into an aftermarket block which are expinsive or find u a nice 351 and u can stock that to 408 or 427... there almos the same as a 302 just different deck height... a lot of stuff will switch over too so its not like you buying a completely new engine. a 351 could easily handle the 650 hp your talking about and can be had for a fraction of the cost of a dart block.... look for a mexican 351 they are much strong that others and can hold even more hp than a regular 351

as for you questoin tho no a 302 will not be able to take 650hp for very long... ull be on borrowed time... which is never good

Are you talking about the new boss 302 block? 650 HP is going to require much more $/mods. I'm just about at 500 with a 347 stroker, 42 lb. ing, a Vortech SC, a custom grind blower cam, Canfield 195 heads, a Pro M 90 MM MAF, 255 lph FP with T-rex ext. FP. etc., so it's all a matter opf how far you want to go.

I just looked at the block and that will not handle 650. It's got a 2 bolt main, you'll need a 4, and I'd recommend different pistons, rods, etc. as well. 650 is BIG HP.

PLEASE ..... do NOT get a Ford Racing short block.

They use cheap vendors now.

find you a local "race engine" shop and have them build it.
i firmly believe that doing mail order engines is a HUGE mistake
Who you going to turn to if something is wrong or breaks? going to ship it back?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, find you a good local "Ford" engine builder

and what they said, if you want 650hp you need a $1500-2,000 aftermarket block
or................
you could do a 351W swap like me, they are good for 650-700hp and come
with more cubes in stock stroke.

No they are not, "mexican" block are only slightly stronger due to different
alloy used in casting. And I've read even that is myth.

You want over 500hp on a 302 block and you want it to last
you need a 4 bolt main block. ---- Dart Sportsman, Dart IronEagle or new Ford Boss block.

I've heard Mexican blocks are good for about 600. When I had my engine built they went with an early model block because I'm not looking to make much more than 500.

Listen to r.barn. You'll need a 4 bolt main and I also agree with the engine shop route. That's exactly what I did.
