Default Head & Intake Recommendations for 500-550hp 408w

Just like the title says, im looking to build a 500-550hp 408 stroker, most likely carbed, but not for sure. What are some good combos? What do you all suggest? Any advice is gladly accepted. Thanks.

I think i need todo a little more suspension and rearend workbefore im ready for that, but once i get the motor done, thats whats next. Does anyone else have any opinions? Im looking to do the build and not order a crate engine. I see on those two crate engines, one has afr185's and the other afr225's. I was looking at the 205's so hopefully that will work out seeing as its right in the middle. Would the super victor intake be too large and make me loose to much power down low? Just wondering. Anything will help. Oh and thanks for the help aode

Doesn't someone's sig say something like

"if you have to ask what it takes to get to 500hp, you don't have what it takes to build it"

Haha yes i've seen that, but im just trying to determine which heads and intakes match well with eachother, it wouldnt really be very intelligent to just go out and buy a set of heads and an intake and throw it on there and hope that they work as well asi want them to. So im just curious as to what you all would recommend.

Then again, it wouldn't be very intelligent to just start grabbing parts and throwing em together if you've never built a car that will handle 500hp, either

I agree that the AFR 205's would be an excellent head but I think a Victor Jr would be a better intake than the SuperVictor because a SV is designed for higher rpm. Not too many engine builders recommend revving the 408 over 7000 rpm.

Our next project is a 408 as well and FWIW.... we're trying to get the best connecting rod to stroke ratio we can and we are using 6.25" rods with a piston compression height of 1.23 - so a deck height of 9.48. This will put less stress on the reciprocating parts, less thrust force on the cylinders, and will rev quicker.

Very true, but if we all did things we've done before...where would we be? Im not trying to argue its just i dont see the validity in your point. It isnt at all intelligent to just start grabbing parts and throwing them together, no matter what size engine/amount of power. But with the right research and patience, it can be done, so im trying to do my research. And advice would be appreciated. Thanks for all of the help so far.

No problem. Just saying that if you're a newbie building a motor that powerful, you need to make sure everything is correct. What kind of suspension/drivetrain reinforcements are you using?
