MPS auto salvage?
hey, I'm contemplating about buying a 5.0 engine from MPS Auto salvage down in georgia, I'm sure most of you guys have heard of them (they have a ton of ads in MMFF and 5.0mustangs magazines...
How reliable are they with their products? I know that they are indeed an autosalvage yard, but aretheir used V-8's good for a mild refreshening or do they just need a simple rebuild? I know the engines they offer are all fuel injected, so I'll simply swap out to a carb and appropriate intake...
my old v-6 is a little worse for wear than I had originally thought, so I'm going to do the car justice and swap in a V-8
also, got my K-member brace in today, but have yet to install it...

RE: MPS auto salvage?
if u wanna get a good 5.0 look for a 88-92 lincoln mark7 they dont charge the premium of a stang 5.0 at the junkyard because few yards know they are the same 5.0ho as the mustang or pick up a 96-01 5.0 explorer motor and add a cam

RE: MPS auto salvage?
sweet, thanks, I forgot about the MarkVII. would the C4 that is coupled to my V-6 engine work with a 5.0? would I need a new bellhousing, or should I scrap that trans and get an AOD? I dont plan of pushing the horsepower much over 250 when it is all said and done, (the engine will stay stock for a long time) so I would presume that the trans(if it fits) and the 7.5 out back would survive for a while.
when I yank out the v-6 I may flip it for a hundred or so on ebay if I can, the engine is in good shape, just has a bad main bearing... but that info is rather irrelivent anyway [sm=gears.gif]
waiting for my tax return[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

mps is one of the oldest and largest mustang recycler around
i bought parts from them over the years and i'm sure they have been

RE: MPS auto salvage?
cool, thanks. I'll give them a call this week.
does anyone know about my trans. question that I posted above? any input is appreciated, I'm rather sad that my efforts were somewhat in vain when it came to rebuilding that old V-6. [sm=headbang.gif]
my 4 eyed fox will live on, even if she has to sit for a while...

RE: MPS auto salvage?
I live right next to MPS and I would say that Prestige is much better taken care of. When I was redoing my interior all of MPS's parts were junk, but I found a lot of nice clean ones at Prestige

RE: MPS auto salvage?
is prestige down in Georgia too? are their engines any cheaper? mps has complete 5.0's for $650 minus the acessories. it doesnt really matter to me if it is missing the p/s smog or alt. already have the p/s pump and I'm dumping the A/C anyway.... the rest I can find in junkyards...
I'm trying to find a 5.0 that only needs some minor freshening, but if a rebuild is necessary than I'll have to do it...
thanks...

RE: MPS auto salvage?
MPS is expensive as sh*t though. I rather go to the junkyard and pull my own parts for a 1/3 of the price that they charge. SOME of their stuff is cheap but most is way overpriced.
