Its exactly what your tpoic says, Its a 50 oz. weight(balancer) then mounts to the crankshaft to dampen the vibraton-also called and crankshaft dampener, and no you shouldnt need to change it unless its bad-all 5.0s use 50 oz- if i recall right

You don't change it unless you're using a stroker (and not always then) or an older, non-roller block crank like a 2M or 2MA.

An overwhelming majority do. You can buy some 50oz. 331/347 kits, but most are 28oz. All my Scat 8.2" stroker stuff is 28oz (or 0 balance).

Keep your stocker. When you take it off use a balancer puller ($13 at Autozone). There is a washer where the crank bolt holds it to the crank, make sure to take that out before trying to pull it, or you will get nowhere. When it's going back on put some white engine grease inside the balancer's hole, and line the keyway with black rtv.

Reason I asked is because 1st my friend will be doing my H/C/I swap and said I need it. 2nd I didnt know what it was for.

I will not be going with a stroker anytime soon. But he did say what I will need is the Powerbond 50oz SFI approved? I still have no clue.

Please help explain....
