warmer weahter making for better MPG???
well i got my car in late december and got about 12-14 mpg with mixed driving. and thats about 150 miles to a tank. that was also with temperatures in the teens most of the time. now the temps are 40's-70's (thats illinois for ya) and still with mixed driving im gettin 15-16 mpg, and 175 miles to a tank! havent done any modding to the car for a while, and havnt really change my driving style. Not that i am complaining about all this but i was just kinda curious. any ideas?

Well just thinking about some chemistry, with warmer temperatures fuel will be less dense. When you burn fuel u excite the particles to combustion, when its warm out, ur just that much closer to a combustion temperature. Just my 2 cents. Still prob not enough to make that much of a difference. If anyhting I would think colder air would be better bc engines like cold air and gas would be slightly thicker restricting flow to an extent. no you don't understand, the change from 0 to 70 farenheit would not affect gasoline enough to cause major changes in viscosity or density. the reason cars use more fuel in cold weather is because they have to run rich to start and heat up the engine. plus the engine also has to deal with higher fluid viscositys making it work harder than when warm along with other small factors. Since most people start their car and let it warm up before driving it the car is just sitting there running rich and using fuel with out putting on miles, this is a big reason why people get worse fuel milage.

Cold air is more dense than warm air. More dense = more of it. More air in a cylinder => more gas needs to be added to maintain a stoichiometric ratio. Thus, your mileage decreases. You also get a slight increase in performance, as well.
