i got a 92 5.0 sc has a tci built aod the guy that owned it before me had a light weight fly wheel put on dont know what kind, but the problem is that when you start itseems like the starter is holding on for only a second to long it kind of has a scraping sound then it lets go.i was told that the starter just needs to be shimmed, is that a good way to fix the problem or is it more detailed then adding some washers to the bolts.

I'd try shimming it, and if that doesnt work i'd go get a new starter.

yeah i tried the new started thing had the same problem so shims will probably be the route

I would check the selenoid first(on the fender). My buddy hooked mine up backwords when i put new cables on! And it did the same thing! Could also try replacing it there cheap and easy. JMO
