Default Advancing timing.

Since I have no timing marks on my car I am just going to guess at it. My question is, when I advanced my timing the idle went up, should I locate the idle screw and turn the idle back down. Btw, is it safe to just turn up the timing a little at a time to try and figure out where the best position is since I do not seem to have any timing marks. Thanks

Not a good idea!!! Why can't you find the timing marks? Get under the car w/ a wire brush and comence to cleanin'!!!

should'nt I be able to see them standing in front of the motor with my timing light, do I need to replace something somewhere around the harmonic balancer, isn't there suppose to be a small piece of metal for the marks to line up to. This is a first for me, as far as not seeing the marks.

They are usually dirty. Most guys make chalk or paint marks on 0 and 10 btdc for reference. Then they are easily seen from the top w/ the timing light.
