Default Oil Pan Bolts or Studs...

Well, ONCE AGAIN I am buying more parts to install when I do my front suspension. My only question is if I should use bolts or studs for my oil pan...

ARP Studs
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...01&FROM=MG

ARP Bolts
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...02&FROM=MG

This is the pan that I am getting... Im getting it used from a friend for $100 bucks Im also getting arp oil pump driveshaft, miloden hv/hp oil pump, Moroso oil pump pick up and SCE one piece gasket.

Moroso 7qt Oil Pan
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

LAST QUESTION, the stock rear main seal is a 2 piece? And the oil pan says its a 1 piece style. Am I going to have issues running this pan ??????

Please dont just guess and say ARP studs are better.... experienced builders only please!

Well thank you for your honesty

Anyone else? I would like to get all this stuff ordered today. Main concern is about the rear main seal. Pan description says its a 1 piece style but if I still have the factory than its a 2 piece correct? Will I have problems with this?

I can't imagine a difference, at least at this stage in the engine's build, between bolts and studs for an oilpan. I'd go with bolts personally, just less of a hassle in the first place. Well, unless you're doing it with the motor in the car, in that case studs might make it easier for lining up the gasket.

Yea, the motor is in the car. Im just changing because I will be dropping the k member for a tubular suspension and I figured since Im down there now would be the time ya know. And your definetly right, studs would make things ALOT easier w/ the gasket.... I didnt even think about that.

if your motor is an 88 (im going by your name) you have a one piece rear main seal. early, non-roller blocks had a two piece seal and because of this the rear main cap was different which is where the oil pan seals, hence the differance in pans.

and yeah, it doesnt *really* matter oil pan studs or bolts, but the studs would make gasket placement easier.

even if your using a one piece rubber gasket make sure you use a dab of silicon on each side of the gasket in the corners as shown in the pic below.... and if your using a multi-piece fiber or cork gasket i would use a small layer of silicon one one side of the entire gasket and use some black or yellow 3M weatherstripping adhesive (snotty nasty stuff) on the other side, it will tack up quick and keep the gasket from squishing around and moving while your tightening everything down.
