RE: first rebuild help
make sure when you the crank and rods done you check the clearances i am doing the same thing as well but found a real good deal on a new block and crank for less than what just the block would have cost and im getting new rods for like 40 dollars more than redoing factory rods but yea spend the money on better parts than what is in that kit imo but i do know someone that is currently usin one of those kits

dude if you want a nice relieable engine..it must be balanced...buy the pistons you want then give them to your machanist so he can bore the block for the right clearance but before he can finish hone it you must tell him what type of rings you using...iron, chrome moly,etc..... have APR bolt put in the rods after they are checked. so you won't have bolt stretch issues.
get your rods reconditioned and have them put 5/16 ARP Waveloc bolt in them. when you go to the machine shop, bring your block, crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, flexplate/flywheel, and harmonic balancer. have them do your rods and properly bore/hone your block to the right specs and regrind your crank (you might as well count on .010/.010 when you order your kit so you have bearings that will work). then have them balance everything, and have them install new cam bearings while its there. also i would have them resurface the block too, its good insurance to make sure you have a flat sealing surface (and it will bump compression just a tad)
