Default Timing

I have tried the Search feature but it does not work right know for some reason. My question is what is the base timing set at and on a stock motor it is a 1994 5.0, what is safe to go up to. I know it all depends on the motor and just drive it and listen for it to ping but i just wanted a starting point.
Thanks
Kevin

Base timing on all 5.0's is 10*. I've heard of people going up to 14* but i think you have to run premium if you set it that high. I guess a good place would be 12*

Start at 10* and then slowly go up. Once you hear it pinging, back off a degree or two.

Check out the stickies... we have a tech article in there! It should be set at 10 unless it has been tampered with. Move up to 12 and take it for a drive. No pinging, bump it more, no pinging bump it more, etc until it pings and than back it down a degree. Also, make sure whatever octane you want to run you have a full tank of. You can run more timing if you go to a higher octane.

actually you can be lean and not hear it at all.
reading the plugs helps, but track time is the best way.
as far as numbers...stock could range from 0-12* they were pretty crappy about it if it's never been changed.

10* is safe on 87 all day long, 12* is safe on 87 if it's cool out, i wouldn't go higher than 14* unless your running premium though.

make sure you remove the SPOUT after you start it, but b4 you change it, or it will not take it right.

if you wanna powertime it, at the track...... make a run on 10* then make runs bumping it 2* per run, don't worry about ET, but the mph that is highest is where your making the most power, and the best time for you.
