Default Tranny Emergency

Well today my mustang is giving me one hell of a heart attack. On my way to school this morning, everything seemed to be up to par, until I found a perfect little straight away to punch it from a dead start. I make sure no ones around, then proceeded to punch it while my AOD was in D. The car hustled forward as normal, when all of a sudden she stopped and quickly shifted at 2500, then again shifted out of 2nd at 2000 rpm. Thinking this was just a fluke, I repeated going from a dead stop again only to find the same results. I got her back up to 40 as normal and put my foot to the floor in an effort to downshift into 1st, but to my amazement she just held in 3rd and bogged out. If I manually shift the trans into first from a dead stop, it will hold the gears till I shift, leading me to believe I havent scrapped a gear... What could my problems be? I checked the ATF and its completely full... could this just mean that my AOD is finally on its way to the grave yard? Any help would greatly be appricaited as im afraid to drive her while she's in this condition.

P.S. Driving normally (no where near full throttle) seems to be fine even though the shifts seem extra soft and long all of a sudden.

could be the shift rod for the tranny, for downshifting, could be worn out.

bump...

If it is only the shift rod, why doesnt it want to go higher than 2500 rpms at full throttle?

Is your TV cable still connected? How many miles are on your transmission?

-PHEW- Went under the hood when i got home today and saw that one of the cables on the throttle plate was hanging down, seems as though the gromit holding it in got worn out and broke apart. Bound it back into the hole using thin precision steel wiring. Took her out on the long strech behind my house and DAMN she kicks down just like when I first got her thanks for your help guys
