Default clutch problems

got a hayes part # 95-201 500 horse clutch not that its important to know but my question is where is the thing supposed to engage and disengage? i been told that should be lower to the floor but its closer to the top. also have a bbk firewall adjuster and a double quadrant and hd cable. plus that stinkin throwout bearing squeals! what can i do?

no, you need to adjust it right away.

it should start to engage about 1-1/2" off the floor

if it's towards the top too much your not fully engaged

does the t/o bearing squeal when you rest your foot on the clutch pedal ? and did you do a steel bearing retainer ? the aluminum one is probably chewed up like they do so easily.

A steel bearing retainer is only$30 anywhere, you will be sorry down the road if you don't do this now

yes it quits squealin when i put a little pressure on it. didnt change the bearing retainer.

lets make sure im adjusting this right. rest the fork on the fingers and tighten and nuts up on the cable?

you don't NEED one unless yours is worn, but they are cheap and a good inmprovment

How you set your clutch quadrant is how your clutch will engage. Mine's set for racing and engages close to the top and works fine. Idk about the squealing though.
