Flickering Headlights

Flickering Headlights
I have a 1990 GT w/ a headlight issue.
I've heard before of an issue of the lights shutting off when the wiring gets too hotfrom the foglights being on for an extended period of time.
This is not the case with my car.
It seems like the Windshield Washer / Brights arm (not sure what else to call it) coming from the steering column has worn out.
I'm not positive but has anyone else had this problem? Its driving me nuts!
While driving, the lights will go off (headlights, interior lights, etc.) if I hit a bump or make a turn.
I quickly tap the arm to get it back into proper position and they are back on.
I can push the arm forward (toward the brights) andpull it toward me (to quickly flash the highbeams),
but somewhere in between everything goes out.
Can I replace the arm? Should I replace it? Is there anybody who has had this issue?
I have failed NJ State Inspection due to it and I want to get my car back on the road.

RE: Flickering Headlights
it's a turn signal/wiper combination switch. if it's all worn out you should replace it. junkyard prob be the best cause i think they are about 60 - 80 bucks new. also may want to check out the back of your headlight/foglight switch. they are known to overheat and start to melt.
