Progressives are practicly always better. They are made so that as the spring compresses more, the more resistance it will provide. So, the farther the wheel goes in the hub, the stiffer the spring becomes. This can be benificial for a few reasons. Lets the wheels stay loose while only moving slightly to help traction while also preventing body roll and keeping the wheel from bottoming out in the hub. Only time I can think of that you wouldnt want progressive springs. Is for a drag cars rear springs. You will want them stiff, and probably a constant rate. Someone may have more input on the drag preference though.
