Default NEED HELP!! CALLING ALL GURUS!

ok guys, this is gonna be hard for you but i will do the best i can.

first off, the car is a 1991 mustang gt.

Problem. I drove to work car ran fine, parked it for 3hrs or so, my battery hasnt been holding a charge, so i decided at 2am to see if it was gonna start, it started right up, let her run for a second to see if the battery was fine and it was. I shut her off. Came out at 7am, tried to start it and heard a TERRIBLE SOUND. The only way i can describe this sound is like "dropping a wrench into the engine". What should i do?

Short version: If i start the car it sounds like im dropping a wrench into the engine.

Another way to describe the sound is like starting a car the "woo woo woo" + missing a shift on a manual.

Whats wrong with it?

i doubt its the starter only due to the fact that i JUST replaced the starter about 2months or so ago, maybe a little less. And the sound is much louder then when my starter went out, although it did kinda have a squeal to it the FIRST time i tried to start it

dimebag, glad your here mate!! i think you kinda misread my problem buddy. Something is internally wrong now with my engine, my car will not start. Ive had to have it jump started a time or two because something was draining my battery but this is a completely different problem. Any tips?

If you put a junkie parts store starter on it, don't be suprised in what you get... Sounds like you broke the nose off the starter in the tranny... It happens alot on remanufactured starters... Misalignment is all that is wrong with it, may have to shim it if thats the problem... Pull the starter and see what the deal is there, more than likely if you picked up a starter at a parts house, it should be under warranty so go get another one... Then go from there if the noise continues... good luck

Thanks for the tip. I went to a place called "the grease spot" awhile back to get my oil change and something else, forget what it was, but my starter ended up going out right before i could get it in the garage. I had them put one on for me at a pretty reasonable price and it has a 1yr warrenty. Do you know of anything else that would make this sound when trying to start the car?

Jumped time possibly??? Really just sounds like something is causing noise between the starter bendix and the flywheel though... Because the starter will still engage and operate even though something is broke...
