Default A not so interesting post..safety

My question is about seatbelts. My car is now 15 years old and im curious to know whether or not the belts will hold up in a bad crash.

my friends father recently flipped his older (early 90's) dodge, and the seatbelt snapped and he was ejected and it tore his face all up.

he was a heavier man but no monster.

i inspected them visually and they have no tear's on them or anything. basically they look fine.

my father works with fibres though and he says that over time they do break down especially in an enviroment such as inside a car, with the extreme heat, moisture, and cold.

any input? thanks!

well since your dads replacing them, have him pick up a 4 point of even a 5 point belt and a nice set of recaros or something along those lines. when he asks you why or he flips out on the price, just make sure you tell him that you cant be cheap when it comes to safety!

you got lucky, in my work truck one had the latch broken on it and they replaced the whole set and for just 3 belts (ford F550) the bill was $200

Pullon them real quick and if they dont lock then they are broken. Try it a couple times to be sure.

If just pulling on them does nto work, try it while stopping... usually the locking mechanism works off a small ball bearing, and intertia

How hard is it to install aftermarket 4 point seatbelts and its seems like a dumb question but do they still work well with stock seats.
