RE: overheating
if your car is pegging 270*, you have a problem. Make sure your radiator isnt clogged for starters
you should always run a 50/50 mix. In the hotter months, in the hotter areas, I recommend a 60/40 water/coolant mix

RE: overheating
i live in iowa and it hasnt been very hot lately at all. The car has only pegged 270, and steemed out antifreeze twice due to letting it idle to long, i shut her down quickly after that. I dont know how to tell if the radiator is clogged but do you think i should take it to the shop and have a flush/fill done?
edit: thanks again for all your help adder, your the one that always helps me with my issues <3.

[ol][*]Are you running your serpentine belt the right way?[*]Have you replaced the thermostat recently?[*]Has the car ever done this before?[*]What happens if you leave the T-stat out?[/ol]
If you want to see if the radiator is clogged, drain all the fluid out of your cooling system and put a garden hose to the top inlet of the radiator. the water should flow freely though. If you see only a small amount comming out the bottom, and the rest backing up and pouring out the top.. you know your radiator is shot!

RE: overheating
the serpentine belt should be running the right way, considering i have never changed it. I recently have NOT replaced the tstat and the car started doing this when i had my water pump changed. I took it into a different shop and they said it was just low on coolant, and they probably forgot to fill it up after the water pump change, it took like 7qrts of coolant or close to that. I havent left the tstat out, so im not sure on that. Im thinking a good coolant flush would be the way to go.

RE: overheating
the car was fine after they filled it with coolant, my heat started to work again at idle, my temp was fine, didnt raise to high during idle, but slightly, about a month maybe 2 later, im bad with dates, im having the issue again.

RE: overheating
well one would assume that if the car started overheating after the waterpump was put in that maybe something is wrong with the pump.... either change it again with one that you know is good... or bring it back to the shop you had it worked on at and bitch about it again

RE: overheating
well.....im actually banned from that shop now lol, and have a trespassing warning against me from them, so i cant take it back to the shop. I dont have a spare water pump nor the knowledge on how to fix it, so im gonna start with the simple stuff first. When i get home i will drain the coolant into a bucket, and then run water through the top of her and see how it pours out. If thats fine, then I will refill it with fresh coolant and go from there.
Next question/comment for you adder. Behind the radiator theres a big white container that has antifreeze, my lid will not properly seal all the way down, would this have any effect on my issue?
