My whistling really isn't a problem or a vacuum leak (getting 15 - 16 inches of vacuum at idle.) It was just a shameless plug to post a video of my Procharger, showing how loud it whistles at idle.

Have you sprayed starting fluid where the upper and lower meet to see if the idle surges? That is the best way to find a vac leak.

I found out today that my cylinder wall is allowing water to enter the cylinder. Time for a new block.

starting fluid? thats a good idea. ill try that.

And yes, I have seen an engine catch on fire from starting fluid. It was in Nashua, NH in 1995. Girl tried using starting fluid, a ton of it. The car still wouldn't start so she tried to jump it. Well teh spark ignited the fluid in that spilled on the engine, lol.
Luckily a dorm was nearby and I grabbed an extinguisher and put it out rather quickly. Then I realized that the extinguisher was still half full so I proceesed to spray it around like a fool and have fun with it,. lol. Figured might as well waste it since it had to be recharged anyway, and I had used it for a legit purpose, at first.
I know I went off on a tangent, but it was a fun memory from college

i've been told that this noise is normal if you have an upgraded TB/EGR plate. Something to do with the way the air swirls around. I don't believe anything can be done.

ok i have the solution to the problem and it is a real head scratcher.. here goes,
when i took my TPS off i must have damaged the part that bolts on to the TB. with that said, i guess your 5.0s have a "controlled air leak" when the TPS is getting no voltage to tell the computer what to do, its more of a automatic idle, i guess. the air leak was coming from (i forget what its called) the opposite side of the EGR on the TB. there are two small holes that the air was rushing into and causing the annoying whistle. so it was not the upper/lower intake gasket. WTF i never would have figured that one out!!!!

supposedly when i fixed the TPS the computer was able to function properly (unlike before with no TPS voltage) when the TPS started working, the car did not have to use the "controlled air leak" to keep the car idoling. the controlled air leak, the housing thing on the opposite of the EGR, was the thing sucking in the air through small holes that made the car whistle.
does that make any sense, its kinda hard to explain.
