Default How to Prime the Oil

I am in day 3 of my H/C/I...making some nice progress

I was wondering when I am complete, how should I get the oil up to the new heads...

From what I know already, pull my plugs and turn the crankshaft about 20-times...reinstall the plugs, and start her up.

Sound correct?

When i did mine we made the crank turn the engine untill there was oil coming through all the rockers. Of course the plugs were off, so it was just crankin.

How did you get it to turn? You just hit the crank with a ratchet??

Get an old dizzy and take off the gear and sping the oil pump with a drill. They also make a oil pump priming tool. You can also just unplug the coil and crank the car over.

that is by far the WORST thing you can do....

go to your local part store and rent an oil pump priming rod...

+1 on the old distributor...did that today, knocked the gear off, knocked out a few pins and presto, one free priming tool, chucked it in my cordless, set it to reverse and after about 10 seconds I had oil pressure. Don't get crazy with high speed on a 24 volt drill or anything nut when the pump primes and starts pumping, I could feel the drill start to work harder...hope that helps.

Where do you plug the primer tool into? Is it the same place as where the distributor goes?

well what i usually do is use the oil pump rod and put a socket and a drill on it and go from there. counterclockwise that is.

Or just use a 1/4" bit and an extension.. Duct tape them together, don't want them in your oilpan.

And like he said...DON'T turn the crank- that doesn't pump oil. Oil pumps do
