I heard Exxon PROFITED $8Billion last year. They have us by the *****, nothing we can do about it. Someone high up needs to step in, wait president Bush and his dad were oil company executives, **** we are screwed.
AGGGGGGGGGG

again Exxon's profits have more to do with New York traders setting gasoline future prices high due to high demand
and U.S. economy consuming more gas than ever. They are going to make more profits if we are buying more gas.
Is it their fault we are buying more gas? No.

Yes there is something you can do about it.
Quit driving a V8 mustang, Quit cruising around wasting gas.
Demand will go down and price with it

You have yourself by the *****.
America needs to quit looking where to point the blame for everything
when its our OWN damn fault..

One of the problems as well is that the US buys over 60% of it's oil from foreign sources, primarily due to environmental/government restrictions on domestic production. When Shell/Exxon etc have to buy oil from OPEC etc to be able to produce enough gasoline to meet demand, production costs on fuel go up. We sit on a lot of domestic oil, but for instance here in California, there's been a moratorium on offshore drilling(where there is a TREMENDOUS amount of oil) for some number of years now. Being less dependant on foreign oil will go a long way towards reducing fuel prices. We also need to be more energy efficient. How many people here even bother to carpool? Or do you just whine about gas prices when you all drive your car with no one else in the same vehicle chipping in for gas? The oil companies per se do not have us by the *****, the average profit margin for the major oil companies is only around 4-7 cents on the gallon, they just sell a LOT of gasoline. 1-2% profit margin on a multi trillion dollar industry is still a LOT of money, but we can hardly complain about being "gouged" by the oil companies, when on a national level we're really being gouged by buying nearly 2/3 of our oil from foreign producers(primarily OPEC nations) who keep jacking the price of oil up by limiting production. And also since oil is traded on an open market, it's price fluctuates based on many things, including but not limited to, political turmoil, threats of war, war, increased industrialization by foreign countries(primarily China and India right now), concerns of POSSIBLE future shortages, environmental restrictions on domestic oil production, weather that damages refineries, increased driving etc etc etc etc. We(America) are a VERY energy inefficient country, we do little to save, and I find most people that complain about gas prices also never carpool, leave the lights on in their house all the time, drive needlessly to places they could otherwise walk etc.

We also have an absolutely STUPID national energy policy. We continue to burn coal, natural gasand oil to produce electricity, yet do little to reduce elecricity usage. We also havesuch aretarded adverse fear to nuclear power. Look at France, virtually ALL their power is from nuclear and they have little pollution, no national energy shortages and are one of the most energy efficient nations in the world. And how many people in France have you heard of dying or even falling ill from the "adverse effects of nuclear power?" Here in America only about 8% of our power plants are nuclear, yet they provide more than 20% of our nations electricity. What does that tell you? Environmental restrictions have made building nuclear power too cost prohibitive.

If you really want to make a difference in terms of gas prices/energy uses, start by NOT BEING SO WASTEFUL!!!!! Also try lobbying your local representatives to reduce restrictions on both power production techniques and domestic drilling. But don't complain, and not buying gas for a day will have not only no impact on the price of gas, but all you're doing is boycotting an indistry that has virutally NO CONTROL OVER THE PRICE OP GASOLINE!!! The problem is both our wastefulness and our poor national energy policy, so start with one of those.

Rant done

Beleive it or not. Other countrys paying almost $10 a gallon for fuel and the average person makes around $80 a month. That's why they only have one car for the whole family and most of them use buses.

67mustang302, makes some good points.

Yes california is f*cked in the head on their enviromental issues.

The U.S. is the 3rd largest of producer of oil in the world and we still import 60% of our oil needs
This has less to do with enviromental laws and more to do with our high consumption
and the fact that others can pump it out of the ground cheaper.
We still drilling TONS of new wells in Texas, Louisana and Oklahoma, that industry
is booming these days.

Not all oil comes out at the same cost either
Best things Saudi's have going for them is not how much oil they have
but how easy it comes out of the ground for them and its quality
Saudi oil is the easiest and cheapest to refine.

and yes other than some subisides countrys like Venezual ( 25 cent for gallon of gas there )
we have the cheapest fuel cost in the world.
Americans really have no clue how good we have it, we have cheapest food and cheapest fuel costs

The leftist brainwashing of America with flat out lies, just bugs the shyt out of me.
you know about half of the "facts" in Al Gores movie were just flat out lies too.

Yes we have some energy concerns to deal with, but we need to
blame ourselves and not the "big business" that gives us what we ask for.
