Get a custom cam to match your combo.

No...any real miles on the motor and the slugs should be tossed anyways. By the way the Eddy heads are cheaper and the flow numbers on the new style heads are less than 1-2 percent from the AFR heads..work over the exhaust side and you WILL outflow the AFR heads and not have AFR spring issues. My Eddy heads (small valve) with only exhaust work are EXCELLENT flowing pcs...in the real world you'll find the AFR head is the only the king in the internet realm.

whats this AFR spring issue you speak of? havent heard anything about them having any problems?!?!?!

when you guys order custom cams do they tell you specs before you pay or do you tell em what you want and they just say "here ya go" after you pay and they give you your cam?

what im getting at, is if they say "yeah we think you need something with 233 duration and .525 lift" couldnt you just find a cam that matched that as closely as possible and make gobs of power for alot cheaper?!?!

Standard AFR springs are inadequate for high rpm....they offer a spring upgrade but of course at additional price...Eddy heads..no issues. Custom cams are designed to optimize your combination of parts...any comp or other OTS cam worth a damn is going to cost you nearly as much if just a bit more than a custom grind...you get what you pay for.

EDDY are usually cheaper. Fact is most Trick flow cars make 290's tuned...my OTS comp cam, Eddy slightly worked heads, import untouched typhoon intake is making as much as the AFR/Custom cam cars ...you can attribute that yes to a well matched trio...but also to a good working cylinder head.

floating at high rpm would be dependant on what cam profile is being used. (btw big rollers like more pressure than big flat tappets..... so maybe the AFR springs would be less prone to these issues on early motors)

just food for thought
