What is the difference between 4.6 and 5.0?

I was of course referring to the engines in the Mustangs only!
and sad to say the 5.0 as we know and love it is dead for good now that Ford has invested millions in the modular motors for their future power plants.

Its hard to say which engine is "better". of course the 4.6 in the 99+ GT's is far far superior in performance over the 5.0 in stock vs stock form... but the 5.0 has a huge aftermarket with tons of cheap go-fast parts and it has a few more cubes... but I'd still put my money on a modded 4.6 any day.

the biggest difference, is the fact that the 5.0 revolutionized the aftermarket parts industry, and there are tons of parts out there that will make your mustang quick and you WILL get them dirt cheap. i think that in your situation your best bet would be to get the 92 GT b/c if it was possible for you to get a 4.6 it would probably not be the PI 4.6(which is the 99+, b/c those are too much money) and you would probably be stuck with a 4.6 engine that will have 150,000 miles on it, and wouldnt make a considerable amount more HP than the stock 5.0. you would be picking from the very bottom of the barrell if you were to get a 4.6 but on the other hand if you were to take say your 4000 bucks and shop around for a 5.0 i am sure that you could find a pretty good one that probably has some mods already done to it. and since i am your older brother and i know a good amount about mustangs i could steer you in the right direction when it comes to your mod selection. try and get a good 5.0, and we will make that sucker fast, BUT of course always slower than my 98(especially after i get my PI swap, WHOA)!

RE: What is the difference between 4.6 and 5.0?
To get back to the basics of the question, the 4.6 v-8 is a 281 cubic inch engine which is (rounded) 4.6 liters or about 4600 cc. While the 5.0 v-8 is a 302 cubic inch engine which is (rounded) 5.0 liters or about 5000 cc (closer to 4954ish but it was rounded up).
I have found that 1 liter (1000cc) is almost exactly 61 cubic inches. This ratio has turned out to be quite accurate.
