Has anybody ever had a good race with a 4-cylinder car?

RE: Has anybody ever had a good race with a 4-cylinder car?
Well, I don't mind at all losing to other V8's, I know I have an auto and I know even with a T-5 I'm never going to be THE fastest car out there, but losing to a ricer is another thing. I want to know, if I'm running mid-15's, will that beat most ricers that go out to the track? I have no clue what they run, although I have heard of ricers with over $10k under the hood and still do best times of mid 14's, which isn't so great considering the work they put into it...

What's it matter if you get spanked by the 'ricers' at the track man...
Hell, I bet there will be 11-12 second AWD 4 bangers at your track, they won't care if your Stang runs 14's or 15's.

ORIGINAL: 89LXcoupe
Has anybody ever had a good race with a 4-cylinder car in their 5.0?
Like a Honda or something of that sort.......
I did...It was a Del Sol with a Type-R Integra motor swap. He launched hard right off the line and got me by like half a car(about the length of my hood) and then about half way through third I was about to pass him but then we had to shut down.

Its hard to believe some of you guys saying that you havnt had close races with any 4 bangers when you only have a few mods. i own a probe gt and run 14.9s with it and can hold its own against a lot of stangs ive raced, sure its a v6 probe, but hey its still fwd.
Here are 2 mustangs that cant say a compact car doesnt hang with them

Oh ya, and ive had a 4 banger stay right with me, it was an evo 8 that i raced from about a 40mph roll, i started to pull a little after i hit 3rd, if we went from a stop i would have seen all tail lights. My buddy with a 96 stang gt (sure its a 4.6) lost to a crx with a motor swap.

With all of my mods done now I've only had 3 cars come close to me so far. 1 of them beat me which was an '02 TA with $3.5k under hood. One was an '03 mustang GT vert with full exhaust, which was a 1/8th mile race he was 3 cars behind me. The last was a turbocharged Honda Prelude, we took off from a 30mph roll he took off first then I a split second after him, so it was pretty much taking off the same time. It was about 1/4th mile race he was about 3 cars back. Pretty impressive. I gave him the thumbs up & we went our separate ways. I've raced 1 PGT which was my friend, he didn't come anywhere close, but this was when I had most of the things done to my car. I love PGT's, one of the best handling cars out there IMO. Which could be why I own 2 of them BTW JDP, wanna buy any parts? I have a 93PGT i'm parting out.

Yeah, but rice cars can be $10,000 cheaper to buy in the first place matching year to year.
