[&o][&o][&o]....please let this myth die!! if you're not looking to spend $$$$ on an aftermarket block i'd recommend going with a 351W based combo anyway. you could build one just as cheap and it will handle more power reliably

if you are rebuilding the motor it wont be a 302 anymore. there is very little chance it wount need to be bored out, that what a 306 is, a .030 over 302.
331 is my choise (that you posted), 347 is fine for street use and race use. a 331 is more popular in class racing because it is generally the limit most power adder class cars are alowed to run. you would see more 347's and larger but most of the time they are n/a cars and they are to small to be effective against the smaller boosted motors.
347 are durable, older 347 kits had there problems. most are better now but not completly fixed. yes some kits will burn oil over time, the ones that wont move the oil ring up and makes the face of the piston weaker. if you plan on using this engine another 100K than a 347 might not be a good idea, otherwise dont worry.
personally i would build a 393, its cheap and strong.

331, and for the tranny either rebuild urs..do alot of research and get a parts list together or buy a new tranny. keep the aod if its going to see highway use. keep at 9.0 to 9.5CR so that you can boost it later...thats where i fu*ed up at (i got 10.0 to 10.5CR so im stuck w/ nitrous) gap the rings for boost application and dont push more than 500 crank hp so it will last you...u can go more but its a guessing game to how long before the block splits. get a light rotating assembly so it revs faster...have it balanced to perfection, and put girdles and 1/2 studs in.
