Default 5.0 swap into a S197

Ok don't kill me yet try to read first with an open mind.....
I have always wanted to build a motor and I want another 5.0. I have had 2 of them and I'm itching for another one. The fox body is my favorite and brings may memories back to me ( I know why don't you buy a Fox then) well I got this car and want something a little different. I want a TRUE 302 5.0 S197.
I looking for tech advice here, I am not rich and would be doing the install and wiring myself. I would like to go Fuel Injected.
Couple questions:
What kind of EEC would I need. is therea plug and play?
What kind of trans could I put in this car that would line up well?AOD?
Would I have to fab a motor mount system?
Any suggestions Besides get you head checked?
Fit should be an issue due to the 4.6 being so wide, and I seen a 427 in an s197 with out cutting being done.
Thanks for the advice guys!~

honestly if you're gonna do a project like this do it so it's worth it, like a dart 347 with H/C/I and all the goodies ...why go through all the trouble of swapping in a stock 302 if you're gonna end up running the same thing you're running with the 4.0 now, know what i mean?

I like the idea of building a bigger motor but I would love to stay 5.0 and go crazier on the heads, cam intake like you just said but keep the block stock with maybea different piston set up. It would be far from stock. Maybe a create motor. Sounds silly but as long as I could do it with a push rod 302/306 block would be my aim.
From what I've seen I can get a 306 ciwith 350 CrankHP for about $2500, I would want more HP of course...lol

After doing the math i see what you mean but I think I looking fo what I would have to accomplish to get heere, the motor is the easiest part...

It just sounds kinda retarded to me. Buy another car if you want that. Way too much work and talk about diminishing the value of a car u probably haven't even paid off yet. Those mod motors are awesome n e ways, if I had a s197 I would be building the **** out of a mod motor. Stroked out 302 with SOHC, sounds like an exotic race engine if we were back in the day.

Why not just save up some money and buy a 5.0 cammer? Some may find it a bit pricey, but hey, it's original!

Get a 347 stroker 302. With the right H/C/I that thing could be a 500hp beast. Personally Id go carbed, cuz you wouldnt have to mess with the car's wiring as much and you could run a stand alone ignition module.

If you're determined to do it, please don't go carbed. Go speed density with a standalone set up. It would be much simpler. Then run a msd ignition or somethin. It still sounds stupid to me though. I would rather stroke a mod motor to get a 5.0 for that car

i hope that 03' wasnt a cobra...because then ur messed up in the head. you can turbo or supercharge the S197 and get the same or more hp to the ground as a 5.0. i dont know a whole bunch about the S197 b/c well, there out of my price range so i dont even bother worrying about learning everything there is to kno about them. sure it will be different but its gonna cost you out the @ss to do that! there will be ALOT to change and fabricate!

My only suggestion is that if you go carb it'll be a lot easier and a lot cheaper.... good luck, it'd be one ofa kind!
