Default maiden voyage+ oil leak

today i finally got my car registered and took it out for its maiden voyage and it performed beautifully. i did notice that my oil pressure dropped to about 25 while driving and went down to 5 with my foot on the clutch idleing. when i got home i noticed an oil leak dripping from the bottom of the bellousing. any one have any ideas what this may be and how to fix it?

thanks
Matt

Rear main possibly...if that is the case, you would have remove your tranny to do it. Also, check the back of thelower intake where it mounts to the block...mine was leaking there when I first got it and it ran down the tranny.

As far as oil pressure, sounds like you might have some worn bearings...how many miles?

its got a lot of miles on it. like just over 200k i just need this engine to make it until i get my 351 built. the oil pressure was fine for 12 miles then it started to slowly drop and it stayed at 25 for the last 5 miles. so if its from the intake then i can just reach over and feel if its leaking?

Yeah, it could also be the valve cover gasket leaking also. You could check all three areas pretty quickly. Rear main, lower intake, valve cover.

Rear main....the oil will be comming from inside the bellhousing, the others, the oil will be on the outside.

look under the car where the tranny and motor connect to each other, if it is real oily the rear main could be the culprit. Check the upper parts of the engine first, oil leaks always travel from the top and move down to the lowest point.

ok so all i really need to do is see if there is oil anywhere on the outside of the bellhousing and that will eliminate everything but the rear maain seal if there is no oil.

now how hard is it to replace this seal? or should i send it somewhere to have done?

Can you remove your tranny yourself? It isn't hard...just taking bolts out and putting them back in...
