running hot
I just replaced the head gaskets in my car. Now, when i drive down the highway my car runs hot. It got up to about 210 yesterday. But as soon as i get off the highway and onto city streets it cools down. It has a brand new stock radiator, new water pump and a 180 thermostat. I have an autometer temp guage. what could be the problem?

RE: running hot
Sounds like you radiator fins are plugged. Check the rad for missing fins, or a bunch of dirt/bugs packed in there. Also, your fan clutch could be bad.
Id recommend you get the police package 3 core radiator.

Ok. Well then when you were putting it back together you couldve routed the serp belt improperly and the water pump is spinning backwards. Or they couldve sold you the wrong one, which would also mean its spinning backwards, even if you have the belt on properly.
When installing the new rad did you/they put the shroud back on? Not having a shroud could cause overheating.

Fan shroud is on, and the belt is routed the same way as the diagram under the hood. i think the fan clutch is ok, i can hear it runnign at lower rpm's, then shut off at higher rpm's.

RE: running hot
The fan clutch is meant to turn on/off at a certain temp not RPM range. If its metal, its a flex style fan, so the fins should flatten out as the rpms increase, but it should NOT shut off.

RE: running hot
Your local autozone or parts store should be able to get them. They usually come with a lifetime warranty for around $200+/-. You should also be able to get a fan clutch replacement from them also. They might even have electric fans there, good way to free up some poines. Only crappy part about electric fans is wiring them to a T-stat of some sort, rather than just toggling them on and off.
