Default confused about exhaust....

I'm right now flipping through my Summit catalog, getting an idea on how much an exhaust will run me.

now what is better performance wise? an X pipe or an H pipe? I'm not too sure what is the best bang for the buck. Now I am going with an off road pipe regardless, where I live, there is no emissions, plus in less than 4 years my car will be emmission exempt regardless... 25 years right?

I'm looking at the following brands, tying to stay around 150-180 bucks...

Pace Setter h pipe
BBK H pipe
BBK X-pipe
Flowtech H pipe
Summit brand H pipe

all the kits I am looking at are 2.5 inch systems now will each of these bolt up to the stock tubular manifolds of my '87 5.0 motor? I'm not getting shorties yet, I'm only gonna buy what I need to get it running, as I am on a budget...

any help will be great.

I run this X and have had no problems with it, it doesnt have the bung for the smog tube which is good, it doesnt have hangers so you can fit it a little closer to the body..

thanks primetime.

I'm looking at the summit brand H pipe, its only 110 ( I know you get what you paid for) but Summit stuff is pretty good, and the cat back system is only 178... I can always throw some 2 chamber flows on it later, I just need to get it running. anyone ever use summit equipment? cuz I think I may get that, as long as it bolts to the stock headers....

H sounds more like a muscle car, X is a raspier more 'exotic' sound. I like the H a LOT more, personally. X *will* give a bit better performance, but it's negligible at best. Go with the sound you like

i am pretty sure the whole 25 years old and no emission rule isn't true. the car will always be held to the standard that it was sold at. you will always have to have whatever emissions stuff was on the car when it was sold. if you state is more flexable they may not even check.

I think I'll go with an H- pipe, I love that deep throaty sound. my mom has the Cervinis kit with the side pipes, sounds so sweet when you step on it. and if I can get that summit kit for under 300, then I am set with an exhaust...[8D]

Adumb, Ive heard that after 25 years a car is listed as "exempt" because it wont be up to the current emissions standards or whatever.... not a hundred percent sure...

PA is weird with the emission rule. where I live there is no sniffer test, but the City of Hazelton (45 minutes away) does, as my mom's stang had the emission tag as well when we bought it from Barber Ford back in Dec '04

My emission is selling my soul. X pipe is more raspy andyou will gain maybe 1-2 hp tops and the H is deeper. just go with your sound preference
