When I hear that someone thinks the clutch is supposed to grab right off the floor, I just have to shake my head. It's supposed to grab about half way up or a little more. That way when you push it to the floor, you KNOW it's fully disengaged. There are way too many people on here that have their clutch set wrong, but they just won't listen... so let 'em overwork their syncros and then complain about notchy shifting, is what I say. As for your problem, if you have an adjustable cable... adjust it. If you have a stock quadrant, then you have to reach up and set it by hand... doing the old "put your foot under the clutch pedal and lift till you hear a click trick" just doesn't set it right IMO.

I'll ask again... do you have a stock quadrant and pawl or do you have an aftermarket quadrant with and adjustable cable and/or firewall adjuster? I'd have to hear the clicking noise you have to be sure what it is, but it may be the collar that mounts over the input shaft of the tranny. The throwout bearing moves along this collar and it may be worn out. Or the pivot point on the fork may not be lubed enough or is worn.
